Reeder hits hat-trick as patience pays off for Young Rebels. Report Here.
The Rebels udner 18's side took the derby spoils with a patient display infront of a good sized crowd at the A2B Stadium on Monday evening. The Rebels who were without 5 "regulars" utilised their squad and changed to a 3-4-3 formation for the clash with the Hillians who had suprisingly parted company with their management team just 23 hours before. Under 16's manager Ashley Carr and senior manager Gary Croydon took charge. The boys in red dominated early on forcing 7 corners in the opening 15 minutes, unfortunately none were delivered with the quality required to force the impressive Tom Betts in the Hillians goal into action. The forward trio of Dec Jenkins, Jack Reeder and Shaun Charles were causing serious problems and Betts was called into action on 20 minutes when he got down well to save Reeder's snap shot from the edge of the area. Then Charles went on a mazy run only to fire straight at Betts. but patient paid off for the Rebels when Charles and Reeder linked up with the later turning and firing home 10 minutes before the break. It was no more than the home side deserved. Credit to the young Hillians though as they got a foothold in the game and could have gone in level when a long Betts kick bounced over the Rebels defender and Foreman lobbed the advancing James Fernandes only to see the ball go just past the post. Joe Shiel had the final shot of the half but his shot was easily gathered by Betts. Both sides came out strongly at the start of the second half and after the Rebels failed to clear a routine corner the Hillians almost equalised. Defender Mike James was forced off with a head injury allowing Curtis Milner to come on for his debut just around the hour. Skipper Rory Biggs went to centre of the back three and showed why he is one of the Youth Teams most versatile players. He was into action straight away as Foreman ran clear, just as he was about to shoot Biggs tackled and prevented a certain goal. Reeder scored his second with around 20 minutes to go and it was well worth the wait. Charles, Shiel and Dean Gilmour were all involved before Reeder lashed a dipping left footed strike past Betts from 25 yards. The Rebels were now on top and Charles and Dec Jenkins were unlucky not to extend the lead further as Betts came to the visitors rescue. In the dying moments Reeder completed his fully deserved hat-trick as he bundled home after substitute Ben Jenkins pulled the ball back from the touchline. Fernandes made a great right hand save before the referee ended the contest with the Rebels gaining 3 vital league points. Boss Paul Demetriou was clearly delighted at full time saying "We worked very hard tonight. We asked the lads to get the ball down and play and when we did that we carved them apart. Everyone has been frustrated by the lack of games but tonight the lads showed how much they want to play for this club and thats fantastic for our future." Worthing: Fernandes; Dowell, James (Milner 59), Boxall; Harvey (B Jenkins 68), Shiel, Gilmour (Carey 76), Biggs; Charles, Reeder, D Jenkins. Subs Not Used: Pickup, Giammattei.
